SP200 Names Zillow Group CEO Spencer Rascoff Real Estate’s Most Powerful Leader
The Swanepoel Power 200 (SP200), the definitive ranking of residential real estate’s 200 most powerful leaders, has named Zillow Group CEO Spencer Rascoff the most powerful person in real estate in its 2017 edition, out today. In addition to the main power list, the SP200, generated by the Swanepoel T3 Group, recognizes additional leaders in four additional bonus categories: Trendsetters, Emerging Leaders (new this year), Social Influencers and Outside Powers.
Rascoff claims the top slot from Realogy Chairman, President and CEO Richard Smith as the No. 1 leader on this year’s list, the first time a tech executive achieves the top slot. Smith is No. 2, followed by Keller Williams Realty Chairman Gary Keller, who moves up one slot for his top 3 debut.
From over 3 million real estate professionals, less than 0.01% were selected to be included on the SP200. Swanepoel T3 Group spends over 400 hours in researching and analyzing the rankings. Leaders from all residential real estate brands, brokerages, technology companies, MLSs, associations, economists, authors, consultant, coaches and media members are all considered.
Swanepoel T3 Group uses a rigorous three-part methodology to rank leaders with the aid of organizational charts and proprietary data from leaders, their representatives and third-party sources. The firm merges this data with a careful evaluation of power before settling on a final order.
“With the SP200, we aim to hold a mirror up to the industry, reflecting residential real estate back to itself by noting who wields the most power and influence, whether by position, personal power, employee count, reputation and trajectory,” said Swanepoel T3 Group Chairman and CEO Stefan Swanepoel.
In addition to the main SP200 and the four supplemental lists, the publication categorizes leaders according to their SP200 rank in five categories:
- SP200 Corporate Executives: Executives who predominantly oversee corporate franchise brands or real estate networks.
- SP200 Power Brokers: Executives who predominantly oversee company-owned brokerage firms.
- Women Leaders: Women leaders who hold the highest senior executive positions in the residential real estate brokerage industry.
- Technology Executives: Executives with technology companies who primarily serve residential real estate brokerage companies.
- Organized Real Estate Leaders: Executives and officers of a Realtor association or MLS organization.
