Named co-CEO of Re/Max in May 2017 with co-founder and chairman Dave Liniger, Adam Contos became sole CEO in February 2018. In this capacity, Contos leads one of the most respected and known brands in real estate, with over 120,000 agents worldwide and 85,000 in North America at the end of third quarter 2018.
Re/Max has recently made inroads into the mortgage business with its Motto Mortgage franchise brand. Over 100 Motto Mortgage franchises have been sold to date. Contos also oversaw Re/Max’s acquisition of Denver-based real estate software startup booj in 2018, a major tech investment for the brand.
Despite a challenging business environment with competition from many well-funded new business models, Re/Max grew revenues 11.4 percent in the first nine months of 2018 from the same period in 2017. In addition, it grew net income 32.2 percent to $20.8 million over the same period. Those expecting existing industry franchise giants such as Re/Max to fade in the face of new competition are mistaken; Re/Max is going strong marked by new energy and positive growth.
With a background in law enforcement, Contos came to Re/Max in 2003 as an independent contractor presenting safety training programs. He rapidly climbed the corporate ladder. In 2013, he was promoted to vice president of region development, and shifted his focus to business development in February 2014. He became senior vice president of marketing in February 2015 and chief operating officer a year later.
